Hello everyone! My name's Veda (pronounced Vee-duh) and I'm on a journey to help people through the power of games. 🎮
I served as in-house counsel at Gearbox Entertainment for four and a half years, where I started working immediately after law school. At Gearbox, I worked on almost every facet of the business: development and publishing deals, license agreements, asset reviews, intellectual property, privacy, and more.
I received my B.A., J.D., and MBA at the University of Miami, where I served as President of the Intellectual Property Law Society at Miami Law School and as a start-up venture consultant at The Launch Pad at UM. Throughout my time pursuing my JD/MBA, I helped both aspiring and seasoned entrepreneurs develop their business ideas into legitimate ventures, consulting them on the best way to market themselves and their company while still maintaining a sustainable business model and avoiding legal trouble. Now, I'm an adjunct professor at the University of Miami teaching video game law and business to both aspiring and seasoned game developers, equipping them with the skill points they need to succeed in the game industry.
I'm a regular volunteer at the Game Developers Conference and I strive to make legal and business issues in the video game industry digestible and fun for game developers.
Let's see, what else...oh! I'm currently working on my own game in Unreal Engine—a fast-paced, first-person game where you play as a dog (my dog, to be specific) and you must collect all the toys you left lying around before mom gets home. I like to spend my time reading books and reviewing them, or at the dojo training in taekwondo and jiu-jitsu—on my way to black belt! I enjoy collecting retro video games and consoles, and my favorite place to hang out is an old-school arcade. Street Fighter II Turbo is my favorite arcade game, and Chun Li is my all-time favorite character across all video games. I'm a huge Bruce Lee fan, too.
